Service Description

This day-long workshop offers a hands-on introduction to making pigments from plants. Designed for newcomers as well as practicing artists, the experience invites a slower engagement with colour; one that begins with living material and unfolds through attentive, tactile processes. The morning session is spent working with a range of plant sources, learning how colour can be drawn out and gradually transformed into stable pigments. Participants are guided through each stage of the process, from preparation to paint-making, and are introduced to natural binders along the way. Together, we create a small batch of watercolour or gouache paint from start to finish. A wholesome vegetarian lunch from our home kitchen is shared as a pause in the day and is included in the workshop fee, offering time to rest, connect, and reflect. In the afternoon, the focus shifts to exploration. Through a guided painting session, participants work directly with the pigments they have made, observing their qualities, subtleties, and responses in use.
